Michael Coats

Michael has worked for Local News 8 since 2006. Before coming to Idaho, he worked for KIFI's sister station in Palm Springs California. Born and raised in the community of Hemet, Michael went on to attend college at California State University, Northridge. Michael then studied meteorology at Mississippi State University. Most of Michael's time in the desert was spent behind the camera as an assignment editor and photojournalist.

Michael spends most of his free time keeping up with his wife Carissa and four children. His wife Carissa used to be a reporter with KIFI and is now an associate real estate broker. The Coats family loves to camp and swim in the warm Idaho Summer months.

    Our cold front is moving off to the east for this weekend, leaving us with colder temps and gusty winds all weekend. Showers will look to stop for late Friday and into Saturday before more snow and rain showers move in Saturday afternoon.   • Forecast for OCT 19th 2017

    Eastern Idaho temperatures will steadily warm into Thursday ahead of a cold front that will move in for Friday. Lower elevation areas will get very near the 70 degree mark, likely exceeding that value in the southern Snake River Plain for today and Thursday. On Friday, expect rain and cloud cover with breezy conditions, and much colder temperatures through Sunday.

  • Forecast for OCT 11th

    A cold front will be moving into the region over the next couple of days. Expect gusty winds, dropping temperatures with much cooler temperatures for Thursday. Cold air moves in behind the trough, taking highs into the 40's and 50's for the rest of the week. Little to no moisture is expected for eastern Idaho with this cold front on Wednesday and Thursday. Snow and rain showers expected with a larger system that will start moving into our area by Friday.
