RIRIE, Idaho -- It's Memorial Day weekend, a time to kick off summer and go camping, to the pool or a barbeque. But Mother Nature has had some plans of her own.
While this weekend’s temperatures were below average and the rained poured, it didn’t stop campers from enjoying their three-day weekend.
Campsite managers said they had some open sites, but with drier weather in the forecast by Sunday night they expected them to fill up.
Five-year-old Jayce Bell and his little sister Ashlynn spent a lot of time in the cabin while camping out with the family, but it doesn't seem to bother Jayce.
"I like to have fun with them,” said Jayce.
Jayce and Ashlynn weren't the only kids spending the weekend outdoors.
Five-year-old Gatlynn Mayes and his two sisters aren't just spending the weekend camping, but plan to take the boat out on the water this weekend as well.
"I like camping when we go fishing,” said Gatlynn. "Because I caught a big fish.”
With their kids busy over the holiday weekend Art Bowes and his wife made their reservations at mountain river ranch about a month ago.
"Rain or shine were going camping,” said Bowes. “We just wanted to have some time together, and be out here in the country and just enjoy Idaho."
While the campground wasn't full Sunday, Mountain River Ranch manager Justin King said they've still had a great start to the summer.
"The weather obviously dictates how the Memorial Day gets a start to the summer season,” said King. “Sometimes it can be anywhere from 75 to like it’s supposed to be tomorrow to 45 like it was yesterday.
While there were some empty campsites, other campers said they actually enjoy camping in the rain.
"I’d rather it wasn't (raining), but I'll still camp in the rain, snow whatever," said camper John Harding.
"With the weather so bad I think a lot of people might have cancelled, I don't know, because obviously there not very many people here,” said Bowes. “But we’re still having a great time."
