SALMON, Idaho -- The Salmon City Council voted Wednesday night to remove Police Chief Jim Spain. The Council voted 4 to 2.Wednesday's meeting was the third time the city council heard from folks on both sides of the issue. The last 2 times the attempt failed because a city council member was gone. The issue has divided the city with many people taking sides for either the mayor or the police chief."This mayor has done a wonderful job since he's been elected," said Margorie Webb, who supports Mayor John Miller. "And it seems like there are people against him, but he has so many for him. I think as a taxpayer I can speak for Mr. Miller he should have the right to fire or get rid of any council men or police officer that is not doing their job.""I thought (city councilman) Jim Baker had a lot of good points and I think the council should have listened to him," said Traci Brewer, who supports the police chief. "I think the mayor is arrogant and had absolutely no intent to listen to anything anyone had to say tonight and I think the city should be ready for lawsuits because they are coming," she said. After the vote, those in the crowd booed, cheered and yelled, "Get ready for lawsuits!" The issue has divided the city, with folks supporting either the police chief or the mayor.Local News 8's Emma Jade was at the heated meeting. She will have a full report Thursday at 6 PM.
