IDAHO FALLS, Idaho -- More than 50,000 people got to see the Blue Angels perform an amazing show this weekend at the Idaho Falls Airport. The performance was great, viewers said, the organization, not so much.
It’s taken the city about 25 man hours to haul out all the trash which was a little more than expected, but this wasn't the only trash talk going on.
Over the weekend the Local News 8 website and Facebook page were flooded with comments about the chaos at Saturday’s air show.
April Sattison said it took her hours to get home.
"I do wish that the city had a better plan for the traffic....what is the incentive to be bussed in if you have to walk 4 miles with little kids back out again?” said Sattison.
Chad said, "At $3.50-$5 a bottle, not everyone was willing or could afford to pay those insane prices. Just because it was an air show, doesn't give you the right to charge airline prices."
However some folks thought waiting in line was worth it.
"As far as traffic goes, be patient," said Shawn Brown.
Lacey Smith said, "Although I thought there were some logistical problems, Idaho Falls doesn't usually deal with such large crowds of people. I enjoyed myself immensely mostly because we planned ahead."
Even the city clean up crew had to deal with the crowds.
"Clean up went pretty well,” said Idaho Falls Superintendent of Sanitation Tony Arehart. “We had a guy get trapped in here on Saturday because of the traffic so he had to wait around till about seven o'clock before he could go get another truck."
With nearly 40,000 people, vendors worked extra hard to keep up with the growing demand of hungry stomachs.
"We had the Idaho Falls store making Bambinos, making them there and we took them to the concessions," said owner of Pickett’s Bambinos Ryan Pickett. “The demand was so big we called on Rigby. Rigby started making them but we couldn't make the demand so we called on Rexburg and Rexburg started making them and shipping them to us as well."
A third party company organized the concessions for the show and charged the vendors 35 percent of their profits.
"We did not raise out price one penny,” said Pickett. “We just took our normal price and added the concession fee to it, and that's what we sold it for."
As for why traffic was horrendous and the shuttle bus system slow, we are still trying to get the air show committee to tell us, but so far they have not been willing to talk to Local News 8.
