POCATELLO, Idaho -- An evening of celebration in Pocatello Tuesday night as Portneuf Medical Center makes its first tax payment to Bannock County.The check presentation of $1,569,785.56 was made at an extravagant event at the Rosewood Reception Center in Pocatello.Portneuf Medical Center had been a county-owned facility run by tax payer dollars up until 2009 when that all changed.Hospital operations were turned over to Legacy Hospital Partners and the Portneuf Health Care Foundation.Tuesday was the hospital’s first tax payment to Bannock County as an independently owned and operated facility.County officials say the process in changing things to the way they are now has been difficult but worth it.“In the beginning, I don’t think anyone knew we were going to end up like this, and through this step by step process, we picked up the pieces when we faltered and did what we had to do to get to where we are today,” said Steve Hadley, Bannock County Commissioner Chairman.The new Portneuf Medical Center continues its construction process in Pocatello.Officials say the hospital is expected to be finished on time and one budget in May of 2011.
