WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A new Tribal Law and Order Act was signed into law on Thursday.Fort Hall Business Council Chairman Nathan Small and Tribal Police Chief Pat Teton were at the White House for the signing of the bill.Tribal communities nationwide face a 2 ½ times higher rate of violent crime than non-Indian communities.Shoshone Bannock leaders believe this is a result of a broken and under-funded system of justice.The new law has several provisions that should help law enforcement be more effective on the reservations.
