IDAHO FALLS -- Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer. And the end to summer fun. The weather was comfortable, but pools and snow cone vendors have already closed their doors in Idaho Falls.
The sounds of summer are coming to an end.
"Summer is only about two months here. So once it starts getting cold and windy, people bring out their sweaters and everything shuts down," said Idaho Falls resident Andrew Bailey.
Along with schools closed this Labor Day, many summer hot spots are too. Already shut down for the season are Sky-Vu and Motor-Vu drive-in movie theaters, River Parkway's ice cream and snow-cone hub, "The Caboose," and most painful of all, the YMCA Reinhart outdoor pool.
Ethan of Idaho Falls says he had plans to go to the pool today. "My mom called to see if it was open or not, but they were closed," he said.
Six-year-old Carter Kaye of Kuna loves to swim in the summer. "You get to get wet and go underwater."
"They just had a blast splashing and swimming and jumping," said Tamera Waldron. The Idaho Falls woman says she loved watching her grandkids play in the pool this summer.
"Sad," said 6-year-old Harrison Meyers. "Because the swimming pool is fun."
But that sadness didn't last too long. Dozens spent the holiday at one place that never closes.
"All we need is a beautiful day, a park, and a football, and we're happy," said Meeka Kay.
Lucky for locals, the weather cooperated. Idaho Falls' Community Park was the place to be for Kay. The mother of three boys says she's prepared for indoor fun in the coming months.
"Play games, lots of board games. A lot of movies, and video games," said Kay. The Kuna, ID woman said she enjoys cozying up inside with a bowl of soup.
Soup, skiing, and best of all...snow. Some say the winter does have its perks.
Jamon Kay loves the cold. "Cold weather is the best weather," says the ten-year-old.
Harrison Meyers agrees. "I like to make snow mans."
Don't we all.
For those who can't wait until next summer for the pool, don't forget about the Idaho Falls Aquatic Indoor Pool located at 149 Seventh Street. It's open all year round.
