BLACKFOOT, Idaho -- It isn’t all about the food this year, the Eastern Idaho State Fair offers a collection of new rides and old classics that provide entertainment for the whole family.
Local News 8 took a tour of the rides from amusement rides owner Earl Butch Butler and got the inside scoop of why this past grocer decided to go into the ride business.
“I think every community needs something like this, an event so everyone can come together and enjoy themselves, “ said Butler.
The amusement ride collection includes the classics, like the Ferris Wheel and Merry-Go-Round, but also rides from Michael Jackson’s own amusement park. Some rides can even hold up to 80 people at a time.
“Our ride capacity out here is heavier and bigger than it was before,” said Butler.
One of the newest, tallest and scariest rides is the Turbo, it goes up to 60 mph and 150 feet in the air.
“When you’re standing on the ground it looks terrifying,” said Butler. “When you’re in the air, it’s worse.”
Not only are the rides for enjoyment this year, but Z103’s Dusty Bee will be riding the Ferris Wheel on Friday for 12 hours in an effort to raise money for the Haven Shelter in Idaho Falls.
Willing riders can join him for a donation of at least $1 and provide some company as he also conquers a personal fear.
“What better way to conquer my fear than being on a roller coaster for 12 hours,” said Dusty. “ I really, honestly didn’t think about it at first. I thought, ‘OK, cool, that will be fun,’ then I rode it on Saturday and that’s when I started getting a little nervous.”
There is no need to sign up to ride with Dusty, just be at the fair on Friday between 12 p.m. and 12 a.m.
