IDAHO FALLS, Idaho -- New national jobless rates out Friday say the amount of money that people take home is up almost 2 percent. The national unemployment rate has gone down from 9.4 percent in December to 9 percent in January.
Economists are saying the service industry is continuing to provide new jobs.
At Lily's Too clothing store in Idaho Falls, employee Jessica Raschke said they are seeing more customers come through the door.
"I do think that people are shopping more and buying more items at a time. Instead of just coming in and getting the one or two items, they are getting five or six or more," said Raschke.
Clothing stores aren't the only businesses thriving.
The Coco Bean Cupcake Café opened in Ammon just months ago.
"I've seen a lot of people come in and they are willing to spend a few dollars on something that they think is quality," said manager Gary Rasmussen.
Carlos Hernandez works as a food server at Sol Rio Mexican restaurant. He admits business has been some what of a roller coaster, but he is thankful that things are looking up.
"When things are good you actually see the light at the end of the tunnel. You say we are going to get through this. Hopefully it doesn't go back down. We try to keep it as long as we can so there's like a brighter side to it. Your mood changes, your stress level comes down and stuff like that," said Hernandez.
The U.S. Department of Labor said 36,000 new jobs were created in January.
