AMERICAN FALLS, Idaho -- A Power County couple was arrested on charges of child endangerment and possession of a controlled substance, both felonies. The Power County Sheriff’s Office said the arrests stem from an incident that occurred Dec. 29, when a 911 call was made requesting an ambulance for the 2-year-old son of Jim Norton and Liz Martinez. The unresponsive toddler was transported to Portneuf Medical Center, then airlifted to Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City. The boy spent about a week in the intensive care unit suffering from an apparent overdose of a prescription drug and also tested positive for methamphetamine.Authorities then obtained a search warrant and investigated the incident, according to a news release. The charges were filed Monday. Power County court records show both were arraigned and pleaded not guilty on Tuesday. Both were appointed public defenders.
