ST. ANTHONY, Idaho -

Counties across Idaho are bracing for big cuts in their Payments In Lieu of Taxes.

The Department of Interior will sequester 5 percent of that money paid to local governments for their publicly owned land.

That money normally goes toward schools and county operations.
Fremont County commissioners are expecting to receive $33,250 less than their expected $665,000 payment.

Commissioners say they will most likely make up for that loss by cutting money from Forest Service recreation programs, since that would impact the fewest people.
