A man's death led to the discovery of dynamite in Ucon.
Police said they were made aware of six sticks of commercial-grade dynamite inside a safe at about 12:30 p.m. after a 58-year-old man with numerous medical problems died at the house at 38th East and 105 North.
Various agencies responded, including the Ucon Fire Department, Bonneville County Sheriff's Office, Idaho Falls Fire Department and the Idaho Falls Regional Bomb Squad. A long stretch of 105 North was closed, and responders told Local News 8 that some neighbors had been asked to clear the area.
The bomb squad removed the dynamite from the house and detonated the dynamite in a nearby gravel pit on the Yellowstone Highway.
The dynamite was in the house legally, but it was so old, it had begun to crystallize, authorities said. There is no word on the man's cause of death.
