A panel of lawmakers is investigating a Wyoming Department of Education reading initiative started under state schools Superintendent Cindy Hill.
Four lawmakers met in Buffalo on Tuesday to discuss the Fremont County School District No. 38 initiative. The topic was assigned to them as a subgroup of the Wyoming House of Representative's investigation into Hill.
Several members commented that the direct tutoring provided by Hill's initiative overstepped the agency's constitutional boundaries.
Hill tells the Casper Star-Tribune (http://bit.ly/15I2ozg ) that the program was provided by the district and not by the state.
The House investigation committee is studying allegations of misconduct in the Education Department before Hill was removed as head of the agency earlier this year.
The subcommittee will present its findings to the full committee, which could recommend impeaching Hill.
