Local LDS church leader accused of child sex abuse
A local-level Mormon church counselor is accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl while she helped clean a building in his ward.
Police are holding the 31-year-old Cesar Duran at Utah County jail on suspicion of sexually abusing a child in a position of trust.
The alleged abuse happened Monday when the girl's family helped clean the church building.
Church spokesman Scott Trotter says Duran was a first counselor, or an assistant bishop, at a Spanish-speaking ward belonging to the Geneva Heights Stake in Orem.
Arrest documents show the girl was helping Duran clean chalkboards when he grabbed her twice and thrust his crotch on her. The girl immediately told her aunt.
Duran apologized to the family and told police it was a mistake to be alone with the girl.
