N. Idaho prosecutor pursues 2 animal cruelty cases
The Clearwater County Prosecutor has filed charges in two separate animal cruelty cases, including one case described by the local humane society executive as the worst in more than a decade.
On Wednesday, Jonathan A. McKenney of Orofino is expected to appear in court on one count of cruelty to animals, a misdemeanor. The Lewiston Tribune reports that McKenney is accused of keeping three malnourished dogs at his home.
The second case involves an unnamed woman who had 22 cats and five dogs removed from her home.
Prosecutor E. Clayne Tyler said he's agreed to defer prosecution in the case for one year providing the defendant seek mental health treatment and complete other probation conditions.
Clearwater Humane Society Director Sherrie Chambers said the animals were living in extreme filth.
