Snowy weather headed our way

Bad news for travelers but good news for skiers: A significant winter storm is headed into the area this weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the western Wyoming high country from Kemmerer north through Yellowstone. Included in the warning area is also the Upper Snake River Highlands and Central Idaho mountains.

Meteorologist Dave Lipson with the Weather Service says Teton Pass could get 2 feet or more of snow.

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is playing up the snowy forecast in a press release that says it's a good time to book a ski vacation.

Getting to the mountains this weekend, though, will be tricky.

It will be breezy thanks to the unsettled weather. Expect breezy conditions starting Friday afternoon. The strong winds will continue through the weekend.

There will be hazardous driving conditions for the mountains and highlands thanks to the winds reducing visibility and new snow creating icy conditions.

By Monday morning, 10 to 20 inches of new snow could pile up in the Eastern Highlands. The Central Mountains could add up 1 to 4 feet of snow.
