SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -

A Utah boy wrote a letter to his local newspaper after a shelter worker forgot to write a note to save his cat from being euthanized. The letter said, "Yesterday grown-ups killed my kitty, my best friend, when they weren't supposed to."

Eight-year-old Rayden Sazama of Logan, Utah, said he just wanted to share his love of his cat, Toothless. His father says the family has no ill will toward the shelter, which has apologized.

The father had visited the shelter in search of the cat, and a worker let him inside even though it was after hours. But the father had not yet paid the impound fee at a city building that was also closed. When he returned the next day, Toothless had been euthanized.
