Warmer weather means greater risk of frozen pipes
Cities throughout eastern Idaho are warning residents to keep a trickle of water running in their homes to avoid having their pipes freeze.
Although subzero temperatures are not the norm right now, the warmer weather is driving the frost farther into the ground -- making it more likely that pipes will go cold.
City officials from Rigby and Idaho Falls said Thursday that they are having more issues with people's pipes freezing.
Rigby Public Works Director Rick Lamoreaux said keeping a trickle of water running will help prevent this. A stream of cold water as thin as pencil lead should be sufficient.
The city of Pocatello sent out more tips on keeping your pipes from freezing this week. You can read them at http://goo.gl/dzDxs or at the link under "Related Content" on full-browser view of this story.
