Bonneville School District discusses boundary changes

Boundary changes for Discovery Elem.?

BONNEVILLE COUNTY, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - The Bonneville School District is trying to do all it can to combat and anticipate overcrowding at its schools. In Wednesday's board work meeting, the trustees discussed possible boundary changes for Discovery Elementary School.

"What we know is that we'll have more students enroll in the fall than we currently have. That's more students than we can really take at Discovery, so the board will discuss an option to move about 100 students out of Discovery, potentially north up to Ucon Elementary School or east to Iona Elementary School," said Scott Woolstenhulme, the assistant superintendent.

Deciding which students will move where will depend on their location. The school district says it has done several things to address the overflow of students. Adding classrooms, trailers, and even closing computer labs has not been enough.

"We've really done everything we can to increase the capacity of Discovery. At this point, there's not much else we can do expect for change boundaries," Woolstenhulme said.

The new boundaries for Discovery Elementary School are only an option the board of trustees is examining. There will be an opportunity for community input before a final decision is made.
