Fort Hall man pleads to federal gun offense

POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - A Fort Hall man faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine after pleading guilty to possession of an unregistered firearm. Tyrell Dixey, 33, appeared in U.S. District Court in Pocatello Wednesday.

According to a plea agreement, Fort Hall police stopped a vehicle. Dixey was a passenger in the vehicle.

Inside, officers found a Mossberg Model 500 A, 12-guage shotgun with a barrel less than 18 inches in length. Dixey's fingerprints were found on the gun.

Under federal law, it is illegal to possess a shotgun with a barrel less than 18 inches in length, unless the gun is registered with ATF.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Fort Hall Police Department. The case was brought to court as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods. The program targets violent crime.
