Suspect in Chubbuck shooting and Ammon high speed chase identified as same person

AMMON, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - UPDATE 4:45 p.m.: Chubbuck Police say Tyler J. Baldwin, 24, of Idaho Falls has been identified as a suspect in a shooting that occurred on Briarwood in Chubbuck Monday night and was also identified by Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies as the driver of an overnight vehicle pursuit and arrest in Ammon Thursday.

When deputies took Baldwin into custody at the end of the pursuit, he was found to be in possession of suspected Methamphetamine and other controlled substances, and as he was being booked into jail, he was found to be in possession of suspected Cocaine as well.  

He was booked at that time into the Bonneville County Jail on two outstanding misdemeanor warrants, misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Felony counts of Eluding, Possession of a Controlled Substances, and Possession of Contraband in a Correctional Facility.

Baldwin has not been charged in Bannock County yet, but police anticipate charges will be filed soon. 

As the investigation continued today, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Detectives and SWAT Team, along with Detectives from the Chubbuck Police Department, served a search warrant at a residence on Greenfield in Ammon as part of the Chubbuck shooting investigation.

One female resident was detained during service of the search warrant while detectives collected evidence pertinent to the investigation.  

Officials report no one was arrested or taken into custody at the Greenfield residence and Law Enforcement has cleared the scene.

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office and Chubbuck Police Department continue to investigate circumstances relating to these two events.

ORIGINAL:

A Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Deputy located a vehicle on S. Falcon Dr. in Ammon believed to be driven by wanted subject around 12:00 a.m. Thursday.

When the Deputy initiated a traffic stop, the driver fled at high speeds through the neighborhood and eventually to the north end of Falcon Dr. near the Ammon Walmart where the vehicle collided with an embankment and was disabled.  

Officials report the driver was taken into custody at that time for outstanding warrants and possession of drugs and was booked into the Bonneville County Jail.
 
The Bonneville County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the incident, and Sgt. Bryan Lovell reports more information will be released later today.
