Local non-profit trying to stop human trafficking

Operation Shield trying to put a stop...

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - Human trafficking is a big problem that's getting worse according to a local non-profit and eastern Idaho is no exception.

According to the executive director of Operation Shield, as of last night, there are approximately 28 online advertisements for selling people in our own community.

The advertisements were found on sites like Backpage and even Craigslist. They say one of the biggest ways to help is to check on your kids so they do not fall victim to this crime.

Operation Shield is a local non-profit that works with victims of sex trafficking, as well as helping to get them therapy.

Today they provided training for our local law enforcement.

"Today's training is training about 70 to 75 officers how to identify and intervene and investigate sex trafficking in the area," says Matthew Smith, executive director.

The mission is to put a stop this problem. He says law enforcement is dealing with the issue.
