Family still searching for DeOrr Kunz two years later

Family still searches for DeOrr Kunz...

LEADORE, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - There is a new push to find a 2-year-old boy who has now been missing nearly two years.

Monday will mark the two-year anniversary since DeOrr Kunz, Jr. vanished while camping with his family and a family friend near Leadore. The family gathered today to remember their little boy, and to search for any clues in this cold case.

“We thought baby DeOrr would be there when we pulled in the campground, and he wasn’t,” Trina Clegg, DeOrr’s grandmother, said crying.

Clegg said that Saturday morning was like the day they were here two years ago. But now with their baby boy missing, they wanted to cover more ground and look at areas they may have not looked at while going over spots they’ve searched before.

“We wake up every morning and pretty much relive everything. And then we realize he's out there somewhere but we don't know where and we don't know where to go. That's exactly why we come here, because we know he was here,” Tanisha Tompkins, DeOrr’s twin sister, said.

The search will not end until DeOrr is found.

“Until we have the answers, until he's brought home, I think it'll continue as us as family. We’ll do what we need to do to be here,” Clegg said.

The Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office is now going to start the investigation from scratch.

“We got told that they are kind of going to start from ground zero again, and they're going to start re-interviewing people just from day one and try to start things fresh again. I think that that's a great idea,” Clegg said.

Saturday’s search event will wrap up Sunday night. The family and law enforcement hope they can find more answers as the two-year mark of Deorr's disappearance comes on Monday.

There will be a candlelight vigil called “Light the Night” for DeOrr on Monday. It will be in Idaho Falls at Freeman Park starting at 7 p.m. Guests are asked to bring blue balloons and candles.
