Hurricane survivor escapes Puerto Rico and arrives in Idaho

Hurricane survivor escapes Puerto...

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - The island of Puerto Rico is still devastated after experiencing two hurricanes one after the other.

With nowhere to go and no living essentials, Blanca Figueroa hopped a free flight to the U.S. mainland. But it’s how she got here that she said is the true miracle.

Melaleuca CEO Frank VanderSloot offered 10 free seats on social media. Melaleuca was able to land its private jet on the island and was willing to take anyone off the island that needed to leave.

"I feel highly blessed. I really, I believe in miracles and I know that the Lord answered the prayers of my son, which was very, very worried about my safety and my family in Puerto Rico. He wanted to bring me to the United States," said Figueroa.

Figueroa was staying in Eastern Idaho temporarily with her friend Sue, but Thursday afternoon she was on her way to Lehi, Utah to stay with her son. Family cancer brought Sue and Blanca together five years ago, and they have been friends ever since.
