Fish Haven man sentence for assaulting forest ranger

POCATELLO, Idaho - U.S. Magistrate Judge Larry M. Boyle has sentenced a Fish Haven, Idaho man to time served for assaulting a U.S. Forest Service employee on August 5, 2010. 56 year old Michael Voris has already spent six months in jail. He pleaded guilty to the federal misdemeanor charge June 26, 2012. The maximum term is one year.

Voris was also ordered to pay $1,117.80 in restitution. According to a plea agreement, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson said a forest service employee was patrolling the Beaver Creek campground near Priest River and asked Voris a couple of questions. As Voris was walking back towards his vehicle, Voris accelerated in the forest employee's direction, forcing him to jump out of the way of Voris' Ford Bronco. The complaint said Voris then hit and damaged the forest service vehicle.
