Car hits straw truck on the Flying Y interchange

POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - UPDATE:  3:00 p.m. 

All lanes of traffic have now been reopened.

UPDATE 1:30 p.m.: Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of I-15 and I-86 in Pocatello around 10:22 a.m., Thursday.  

ISP reports 26-year-old James Scott of Chubbuck was driving a 1998 Mercury Mystique northbound on I-15 and was taking the westbound I-86 on-ramp when he failed to negotiate a turn, drove off the road and became airborne after striking the embankment.

62-year-old Eddy Chapman of Hagerman was driving westbound I-86 from southbound I-15 in a 2011 Freightliner semi pulling two trailers hauling hay when Scott's vehicle struck Chapman's. The semi overturned and came to rest on its side, ISP reports.  

Both drivers were transported to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello.

According to ISP, Scott was not wearing his seatbelt, and Chapman was wearing his seatbelt.

The westbound on-ramp for I-86 from southbound I-15 is still blocked as of 1:30 p.m. Northbound traffic on I-15 can access westbound I-86. 


Emergency crews are on the scene of a crash at the "Flying Y" in the westbound lanes of I-86 at the southbound Interstate 15 connection north of Pocatello.

The accident involved a semi-truck carrying straw and a passenger car.

Ambulances are on scene, but the extent of any injuries are unknown at this time.

Idaho State Police reports traffic is blocked in the southbound lanes of I-15.

Driving conditions are poor in the area, and officials ask you use caution and expect time delays.
