REXBURG, Idaho - The Boy Scouts of America is opening a full-time service center on Main Street in Rexburg.
According to a news release Thursday, the center is offering supplies, materials and services for Targhee and Fort Henry districts, which cover Madison and Fremont counties. Previously, Scouts and leaders there had to travel to Idaho Falls.
"One of the factors in deciding to bring the service center to Rexburg is that the Targhee District currently has an 80 percent saturation rate, which means 80 percent of all Scout-age youth in the area are enrolled in the program," said Clarke Farrer, Scout executive for the Grand Teton Council. "With so many youth active in the Scouting movement, the district and council Scouting leaders decided it was time to bring increased services closer to the strong local programs."
Various community members donated money and labor to build the center, which is at 57 E. Main Street next to The Bed Place.
A ribbon cutting was to be held at noon Thursday.
