Former Salmon High coach drowns

LEMHI COUNTY, Idaho - Former Salmon High School basketball coach Dean Stokes died Friday night after falling into a ditch, the Lemhi County Sheriff's Office said.

He was 77 years old.

The accident happened on his property on Barracks Lane southeast of Salmon.

Stokes coached basketball and was a teacher in the Lemhi County School District.

According to the "Centennial History of Lemhi County," Stokes led the Savages to five state basketball tournaments from 1963 to 1971. Stokes also coached track and taught Driver's Education.  

He left teaching and coaching in 1977.
