IDAHO FALLS, Idaho - Mayor Rebecca Casper has taken her spot as mayor and is already working to get the public involved in city business.
Wednesday, Jan. 15, was originally the deadline for people to apply for the citizen review committee, but it has been extended to Friday. The committee will review basic functions and budgeting processes to improve the city's 2014-2015 budget.
They will work with City Council by preparing reports to guide council members in solving city problems. Casper said this will help with the city's push toward transparency.
"I'm really expecting that there will be a lot of 'Aha!' moments where citizens say, 'I didn't know that our city did this,' or, 'Wow, they're really doing this well.' There will probably also be some other moments where they say, 'We can improve this, we can do better.'"
Applications are available online. You can also get a hard copy from the city clerk's office. The mayor will be reviewing those applications on Monday.
