Investigators look into deadly plane crash

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho - The National Transportation Safety Board has begun its investigation of Saturday's private plane crash near the Idaho Falls Regional Airport.

Two people died in the crash: Mark J. Schell, 64, of Idaho Falls, and Brian W. Hymas, 43, of Rexburg. A 13-year-old boy survived but was hospitalized.

Andrew Swick, the investigator in charge, said the federal investigation will begin with a review of wind and weather conditions at the time of the crash and the pilot's background. Along with a review of mechanical systems, those will be used to help identify a probable cause.

Swick said some witnesses heard the plane sputtering after departure from the airport.

The wreckage has been laid out inside a hangar.

The investigation will take six to eight months. After the investigation is complete, the NTSB will determine the probable cause.
