IDAHO FALLS, Idaho - Three Idaho mayors are among 70 community leaders across the country fighting to keep their airport control towers operating.
The Alliance for Aviation Across America released a letter to the Federal Aviation Administration Thursday. Those signing the letter were Idaho Falls Mayor Jared Fuhriman, Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad, and Mayor Fritz X. Haemmerle of Hailey.
As a result of mandatory federal budget cuts, the closures would affect 149 airports nationwide.
The letter claims that "at a time when we as a nation should be focused on creating and supporting jobs, these closures will only serve to hamper business growth, while also potentially leaving even more hundred upon thousands of workers unemployed."
