More color choices for LDS missionaries

LDS missionaries have new dress standards

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has set new guidelines for the missionary clothing.

Elders are now able to wear lighter colored suits and slacks. Sisters can wear brighter tops and skirts as well.

Brent Tueller, owner of Ferrell's Clothing in downtown Idaho Falls, said 60 percent of his business is oriented to missionaries. He's already making changes.

"We're gearing ourselves to that right now," said Tueller. "We have that in the works with our manufacturers to build those kinds of suits."

Even khakis are acceptable now. That's something Ethan Thomas would have appreciated when he served his mission in Chile.

"I like khakis. I know I had a couple pairs before that I didn't take on the mission," said Thomas.

Brianna Wilson served a mission in Albuquerque, N.M. She said the change should make things easier for future missionaries.

"Shopping for my mission was so hard because so many of the guidelines weren't really fashionable," said Wilson.

Although the church sets the guidelines, mission presidents are known to adjust requirements to the climate of the region.
