Zoo welcomes new primates

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho - Three ring-tailed lemurs were recently born at the Tautphaus Park Zoo.

The first was born March 27, and twins were born April 25.

"We knew both the females were pregnant, but the twins were a bit of a surprise," said Zoo Superintendent Beth Rich. "Ring-tailed lemurs usually give birth to a single infant, but twin births are not uncommon. Both mothers are doing an excellent job caring for their babies."

Rich said it's too early to tell the gender of the baby lemurs.

Also new in the zoo's Primate Discovery Center is a female Goeldi's monkey. She arrived from a zoo in Kansas, the city said Friday. Officials hope she will breed with one of the two males at the zoo.
