Man accused of starting fire in fight with wife
A 33-year-old Salt Lake City man has been charged with attempted murder after police say he tried to burn down a building with his wife inside.
Daniel Doe Ivins was charged Wednesday with aggravated arson, attempted murder and assault stemming from the fire May 8.
Police say Ivins cut his wife's lip in a dispute before firefighters arrived at the burning apartment building on N. 800 West about 9 a.m. A jail report says she had a black eye and bruises from previous altercations.
The woman's mother told police she heard Ivins say, "I hope you die," as the woman tried to escape from him.
Four people were evacuated from the building. Investigators determined the fire was intentionally started on a loveseat.
