Minority population growth shifts Wyoming demographics

SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) - A report from a nonprofit group says minority populations in Wyoming have been growing faster than the white population as the Cowboy State's demographics slowly shift toward greater diversity.

KROE-AM reports that an analysis by the Wyoming Community Foundation found that the state's minority populations increased by a combined 57 percent between 2000 and 2016.

Hispanic or Latino populations saw the largest jump - an 84 percent increase to more than 58,000 people.

By comparison, the number of whites grew just 20 percent.

However, U.S. Census data shows whites continue to make up the overwhelming majority of the state's 580,000 residents, at almost 93 percent.
