Murder suspect making $7K a month says can't afford lawyer
A Salt Lake City pediatrician charged with murdering his ex-wife has told the court he can't pay for his own attorney even though he makes $7,000 a month.
Court records show John Brickman Wall filed the declaration of indigency Friday morning. He lists four dependents and a home mortgage of $380,000. He reports no assets worth more than $10,000.
The filing came as a surprise to the attorney that has been representing him since October, G. Fred Metos. Metos said Friday he was going to visit Wall in jail and to find out more.
The 49-year-old Brickman Wall was arrested and charged Thursday in the September 2011 death of his ex-wife, Uta Von Schwedler. Schwedler was a biologist at the University of Utah and left behind four children.
