POCATELLO, Idaho - Pocatello is hosting choirs from around the world for the 7th Annual Idaho International Choral Festival.
Local News 8 reporter Chris Cole attended some of the events Friday and even had some fun joining in.
The sounds coming from the Idaho State University campus Friday were simply too good to explain with words.
"As one of four continuing choral festivals in the United States, this is a pretty special event to happen here," said ISU Director of Choral Activities Dr. Scott Anderson.
The choirs that performed on campus Friday were from China, Switzerland and Poland. I even got to tag along with Poland's group as they practiced after the concert. We practiced the song that all groups will sing at Saturday night's final concert.
Singing with a group that talented was certainly intimidating, but they were very friendly and accommodating, a sentiment shared by Anderson
"When it comes to communicating," Anderson said, "we will use hand gestures and we'll do anything it takes once we make that common bond with music."
He also said these events remind the community about the importance of music.
"Music is a cultural marker, and hopefully we will be better, I guess, at cherishing music and all the other arts," he said.
There are still opportunities to hear the international choirs. Friday at 7 p.m. they are performing at various locations around Pocatello.
