This is the first weekend in almost one year the famous Red Hill Trail is back open, and plenty of hikers and bikers were coming out on Sunday afternoon to enjoy its classic recreational activities.
The trail officially opened back up late Thursday afternoon after remaining closed-off for a year when the university deemed the "I" as a possible safety hazard to anyone using that trail.
After crews deconstructed the "I" earlier this summer, a rockfall barrier was put into place to stabilize the hill. Some work to restore the native vegetation still needs to be done, but that will happen in the fall when the weather will be better for planting.
Parts of the trails on the hill might be temporarily closed for re-seeding.
