Bridger Teton fights first fire of the season

JACKSON, Wyo. - Bridger Teton National Forest is assessing its first fire of the season. The Beaver Mountain Fire in the Jackson Ranger District was spotted by a passing motorist  on Highway 189/191 at around 3 p.m. Monday.

The small spot fire is located approximately six miles southeast of Hoback Junction.  Firefighters are working to identify the exact size of the fire and what kind of material it is burning in.

Firefighters conducted a 100-acre prescribed burn in the area this spring which was aimed at reducing the fuels available to burn in that vicinity.

While this is the first fire on the forest this season, rangers have responded to multiple abandoned campfires this month.   Fire danger is currently listed as "moderate".
