Rigby snowboarder and Olympics hopeful Jessika Jenson thought she was headed to Aspen, Colo., for the Winter X Games Sunday night after the Olympics Slopestyle team was announced without her name on the roster. Monday night, though, Jenson learned there were still spots open, and she was named to the U.S. Women's Olympic Snowboard Slopestyle Team and will compete in Sochi, Russia, next month.

The 22-year-old Rigby High School graduate will be joining other athletes from our area at the Winter Games:

  • Resi Stiegler is an alpine skier from Jackson Hole, Wyo. She was on the 2006 Olympic team, taking 11th place overall and 12th in the slalom.
  • Silver medalist Hilary Knight of Sun Valley will compete in the USA Hockey Team. She was in the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
  • Morgan Arritola from Ketchum area will be competing in cross country skiing. She was part of the 2010 Olympic team and finished 12th in the 4-by-5 relay.
  • Sara Studebaker, 29, of Boise, will be competing in her second Olympic Games, competing in biathalon. She was part of the 2010 Olympic team and finished 34th in the 15-kilometer individual.
