Two Boy Scout leaders have been reprimanded by the organization for marching with several Scouts in the Utah Pride Parade in Salt Lake City.
The Great Salt Lake Council of the Boy Scouts of America says Peter Brownstein and Neil Whitaker violated the organization's policy prohibiting the use of scouting to promote a political agenda.
But Whitaker told The Salt Lake Tribune that they were celebrating a "cultural" event and not advancing the gay agenda.
Both leaders refused to sign an apology letter acknowledging they violated Scout policy and were disobedient.
The two had been warned that they would violate the policy if they wore their Scout uniforms.
Whitaker and the Scouts wore their uniforms in the June 2 parade, but Brownstein did not. Former Scoutmaster Dave McGrath of Idaho Falls, Idaho, also marched in uniform in the parade.
