Police say a homeowner in Kearns caught a burglar in the act, but the burglar ended up wrestling the gun out of his hands.
Unified police Detective Jared Richardson says the homeowner was in his basement about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when he heard noises upstairs.
Officials say he grabbed his handgun and found an intruder disassembling electronic equipment.
Richardson says the suspect tried to flee, but the homeowner said no and the two started wrestling.
Police say the homeowner, who's in his 60s, fired a shot at the burglar but missed, and the suspect grabbed the gun and ran off.
The man was not seriously injured. Authorities say they're now looking for the suspect, described as a Hispanic man in his early 20s with a slender build and a mustache.
