An 18-year-old Utah man arrested in 2012 in a plot to blow up his high school is now out of juvenile detention and running for mayor of Roy, Utah.
The Standard-Examine of Ogden reports Joshua Kyler Hoggan has filed his papers to challenge current mayor Joe Ritchie and councilman Willard Cragun in the race.
Hoggan served six months in juvenile detention after he pleaded guilty in 2012 to possession of a weapon of mass destruction.
Police say the Hoggan and an older classmate at Roy High School had a detailed plan to bomb the school and then fly away.
Hoggan says his time in detention helped clear his head. He says becoming mayor would give him a chance to give back to the community and make up for his mistake.
