Woman gets prison for stealing from 100-year-old
A former nursing home employee has been sentenced to three to five years in prison for stealing thousands of dollars from an elderly patient in Casper.
District Court Judge Catherine Wilking on Thursday gave Malgorzata Burns credit for 177 days already served.
Burns was accused of stealing money from a 100-year-old man with dementia while he was under her care.
Natrona County District Attorney Michael Blonigen says Burns used the victim's checkbook to pay credit card and cable bills and eventually secured online payments through his account.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports that Burns had pleaded no contest to one count of obtaining goods by false pretenses.
Burns told the court she was ashamed of her actions and was willing to do whatever it takes to pay for her misconduct.
