Cuban defector Rusney Castillo was declared a free agent by Major League Baseball, according to Baseball America.
The 26-year-old outfielder defected from Cuba earlier this year. He will be represented in the U.S. by Jay Z's Roc Nation Sports.
The speedy Castillo is not expected to have quite the impact of fellow Cuban outfielders Yasiel Puig and Yoenis Cespedes. Scouts reportedly expect Castillo to perhaps be a fourth outfielder on a major-league team.
Castillo played at least five years in Cuba's top professional league, so he will be exempt from MLB's international spending cap.
