Carolina Panthers guard Travelle Wharton will announce his retirement Tuesday at the team's training camp, according to the Charlotte Observer.

Wharton, 33, spent most of his career with the Panthers, who selected him in the third round of the 2004 draft.

Wharton started for the Panthers through the 2011 season before signing with the Cincinnati Bengals. He missed 2012 after sustaining a knee injury during a preseason game with Cincinnati.

Wharton returned to the Panthers last season as an injury replacement and started 12 games at left guard.
