IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC) established the first burn center in the state of Idaho.
Adult and pediatric patients from a multi-state region including Wyoming, Montana and North Dakota can be treated at the center. Previously, the closest facilities were located in Denver, Salt Lake City and Seattle.
The center includes a 6-bed ICU for critically injured patients as well as an outpatient burn, trauma and wound clinic for ongoing treatment.
To open the burn center, EIRMC invested $3 million in renovations to various departments throughout the hospital, including the Emergency Room, Operating Room, Intensive Care Unit and outpatient clinic.
The hospital also invested an additional $2 million in new equipment and technology.
The Burn Center at EIRMC treats the following conditions:
- All types of burns, including thermal, chemical, electrical, inhalation, friction burn/ road rash
- Crush injuries
- Degloving injuries
- Diabetic wounds
- Fournier’s Gangrene
- Necrotizing Fasciitis
- Skin Sloughing
- Staphylococcal Scalded Skin Syndrome
- Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS)/ Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN)
