Matt Brewer

Matt Brewer

Matt was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up just across the river in Vancouver, Washington. Ever since he was little, he has been fascinated with all kinds of weather, but most especially snowstorms. He got his undergraduate degree in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Utah and at the same time he did an internship at KUTV in Salt Lake City. Though he had interest in Broadcast Meteorology, he decided to pursue graduate work at the University of Washington first. After completing his PhD, he took at job as a research scientist at the NOAA Air Resources Laboratory Field Research Division here in Idaho Falls. He worked there for two years and worked to improve the simulation of surface-air energy transfer in weather models. He is now extremely happy to be a part of Local News 8 as a meteorologist!

While in school, Matt started a family. He is married to his best friend Jeralyn and he now has 5 children. A particularly eventful period of his life was when he had twins while in graduate school. Though he took a bit longer to finish his graduate work than he hoped, he is very grateful for how things worked out. Aside from spending time with his wife and children, which is his favorite past-time, Matt is an avid Utah Jazz fan, and BYU and UofU football fan (yes...this is possible!). He also loves to golf (regular or frisbee), read a good fantasy novel and try out all the local Mexican restaurants.
