Man arrested for armed robbery

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - UPDATE 5:15 p.m. A 29-year-old Idaho Falls man has confessed to Idaho Falls Police investigators and has been arrested for robbery.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. Friday, Idaho Falls Police Officers were dispatched to Check Into Cash, at 1175 E 17th Street, for reports of an armed robbery.

Employeestold officers a man displayed a knife and demanded cash before leaving the business. He left on foot shortly before 11:30 a.m. and was last seen westbound on 17th.

Officers were able to review surveillance footage and information from the scene to identify a possible suspect. Officers searched the area nearby and determined other locations where the suspect may have gone.

Officers responded to a residence in the area of 9th and Holmes at approximately 11:50 a.m. Officers maintained a presence at the residence until a search warrant was secured and continued to search other areas and pursue other information in the meantime.

The search warrant was secured and officers searched the residence at approximately 3:30 p.m.

The suspect was located hiding inside and was taken into custody at 3:39 p.m. Officers were able to recover all the money taken from the business, $529, as well as the knife used in the robbery from the residence.

Dakota F. Kelso has been arrested for robbery. Additional charges may be pending.


UPDATE 4:20 p.m. Idaho Falls Police report a suspect has been arrested near the area of 9th and Holmes.

Idaho Falls Police are investigating an armed robbery at Check Into Cash at 1175 E. 17th Street around 11:30 a.m. Friday.

The suspect is described as a dark-skinned, possibly Hispanic male, in his 20's. The man was about 5'6" tall and weighed about 120 pounds.

He was wearing dark workout clothes with lime-green colored pant legs. They were baggy pants and a tank top.

The man was last seen walking west on 17th Street towards Lowe's.

Anyone with information should contact the Idaho Falls Police Department at 208-529-1200.

Nearby schools were either placed on “lockout” status or had additional police presence as a precaution. Police say that status has since been lifted.
