CHUBBUCK, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - The old St. Paul's Catholic Church is now officially High Desert Physical Therapy. The PT clinic opened its doors to patients last week and celebrated their ribbon cutting on Aug. 15.
The lot had been vacant for about 10 years, but then Jared and Emily Pugmire decided to take over the building.
“It’s not your typical PT clinic,” said Jared Pugmire, the owner of High Desert Physical Therapy.
An open house for the public was hosted on Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. The clinic offered free physical therapy screenings to those who attended.
Pugmire and his team are excited about the new space.
“I think we have a lot of opportunities for a number of different things here, and we have a lot of space to grow. It’s a really cool part of town and I think we have a lot to offer for this community, specifically,” said Bryan Lawson, a physical therapist at the clinic.
The biggest change from the old location is how much room the church building offers.
“We were talking the other day, Bryan and I, on how much we walk in this place so you can get an idea of how big it is. We walk an average of seven miles a day while treating patients,” Pugmire said.
After months of renovations, the clinic began treating patients in the new location in early August. So far, patients are enjoying it.
“The biggest response we get is its just so open and it’s very calming, peaceful. They love the little mural my wife did on the wall of the local mountains here,” Pugmire said.
Local artist and Pugmire's wife, Emily, will also be using the large space for a new art school, called The Sage Brush.
“I think being able to give people a space to come in and be creative and have fun. It's very therapeutic. You're growing, you're expressing yourself. It's not gonna be a critical place,” Emily said.
She'll be offering classes for children ages seven and up.
“I also will be doing some fun group classes where we have parents can come with their child. So they can make it like a father daughter night or mother son, or whatever, mother daughter. And I’m gonna teach you a little bit about how to do a portrait, and they can do a portrait of each other,” Emily said.
The art school will begin classes in early September.
